My sister requested some new pillows for her birthday…which was almost 2 months ago now. Oops. This weekend I finally got around to sewing them up for her. I created a new color story to go with these great new couches she just got. Im loving all things Indigo at the moment. Add in the colors of the ocean that are lingering in my mind and you’ve got the new color range. Oh, and did I also mention I made my sister cut all the fabric while I ironed and sewed? Ya, I’m not a very good sister. But what is good are these pillows. The new colorways are available on Spoonflower.

I’ve just returned from 5 nights at the beach.  Oh my wonderful beautiful relaxing amazing best time ever!!! I forget that water can be that shade of turquoise, the perfect ombre from aqua to marine blue.  I have this love affair with the Ocean…I get to step my feet in it so rarely, that when I do it becomes intimately significant.  ImageI feel so ready to create some new designs. I’m itching to work…and thats not just cause of the intense sunburn I’m rockn right now.

I’m also really excited to be part of some great sales through DENY Designs.  The sales have been going on most of the week and are wrapping up tomorrow.  Check them out! Fab, GILT: cool clocks, and Joss&Main: Tribal Trend

Guys, guys, guys! It’s here! I just can’t express how super beyond crazy excited I am to be part of DENY designs.  They’ve curated an amazing group of talented artists for their products, and I’m honored to be among them.  Pattern Sate shower curtain, duvet cover, throw blanket, pillows….I think YES!  Check out the full range of products and patterns here.  And Happy Valentines Day!

Has it seriously been over 2 months since my last post?  How about I blame the holidays and working on lots of new projects!  I’ve got to say thanks to the many friends and family who have been really supportive of me and my designs for Pattern State.  Below are a few pics of some pattern state iphone cases from Society6 in action.  Coincidentally, these are also 3 of my best sellers.

ps_phonesSpeaking of excellent friends, a couple weeks ago I needed to have some head shots taken.  Which just sounds so weird and like a bad senior graduation photo shoot.  So instead of cropping myself out of the least bad photo I could find I decided to turn to a professional.  My friend Stacie came to the rescue.  Seriously, not only does she wield camera magic, she really put me at ease and actually made it fun.  If you are anywhere near the Dallas area, Stacie Tatum is your girl for the best photography shoots…weddings, babies, families, and even awkward friends!  Lesson learned yet again: leave it to the professionals!!

Do you know what’s hard…designing a  calendar, who knew! I actually thought this would be easy and was sorely mistaken.  I really love tea towel calendars I’ve seen in the past.  I have a seriously bigger admiration for these designers now.

So here it is…my design for a 2013 Calendar.  It can be printed through Spoonflower and sewn into a tea towel.  This one is sized to fit a fat quarter of basic cotton.  I have a version that’s a few inches taller to fit a fat quarter of linen/cotton blend so it’s better for use as an actual tea towel.  I plan to have the linen version available for sale in the next couple of weeks.

I entered this design in Spoonflower’s Tea Towel Calendar Contest that should go live in a couple of days.

Time to design more prints…feeling very geo this fall/holiday….

Its been a whirlwind around here and I’m finally getting over my jet lag after a week in Europe.  But what is better than a week in Europe?…wait for it…..WALLPAPER!  The happiness I found in my inbox this morning is that Spoonflower has now expanded from custom fabrics into wallpaper and wall decals.  Seriously, this company is amazing!  I just started playing around with a few designs, but now my mind is racing!  So be looking out for new pattern state wallpaper designs soon!!  And lets add a few more exclamation points so you can tell how excited I really am!!!!!!!!!

I had my first lesson in dying fabric. And by lesson, I mean I read some blogs and just tried it out. I’ve got the blue fingers to prove it.
First tip: wear gloves….the whole time

I found these blog posts really helpful:

I used some extra IKEA fabric I had as test swatches to find the right colors and used DYLON dyes.  I was able to use the aqua and pink as they were but mixed to get the right shade of lime.

The results are far from perfect.  But it was so fun working with my hands again.  And really, I kind of felt like a dip dying bad ass.

I’m a little late to the party in actually putting this on the blog, but Pattern State is going to be published!  When I first got the news I think I jumped up and down for about 10 minutes straight.

Artist, Kristi O’Meara did a kickstarter to fund this book.  Its such an awesome project and I’m super honored to be a part! You can pre-order a copy of “PATTERNBASE:  A Collection of Contemporary Textile + Surface Design” here.

These are the 2 pieces that will be featured in the book:

Batastic available through Society6 and Rabbit Run in Taupe available through Spoonflower.

And Thanks again to Kristi, can’t wait to see the results of all your hard work!
